OMAHA, Nebraska (April 30, 2024) – After a full day of feeding operations today at the Blair-Lakeland DAC in Washington Co., The Salvation Army of Omaha is gearing up to distribute some 800 meals in total on Wednesday (5/1) – via both in-house service at the DAC (4861 Lakeland Drive) and mobile-meal distribution methods. Details on that effort and ongoing Omaha efforts follow below.

In Washington Co. Wednesday 5/1

Our Disaster Assistance Center (DAC) in the community of Lakeland—just south of Blair—will be the scene of a special breakfast meal-service Wednesday morning…donated by the McDonald’s restaurant in Blair. McDonald’s is set to provide 200 breakfasts that will be available at the DAC starting around 8 a.m. for anyone impacted by last week’s tornadoes. The DAC will be open Wednesday from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. – and those needing assistance in the wake of the storms can find support there. The Salvation Army sincerely thanks the McDonald’s team in Blair for their outstanding generosity.

Later in the day, Salvation Army teams plan to provide 300 lunches and 300 dinners for anyone in need. Some of these meals will be available at the DAC, and the balance will be driven directly to individuals and families in need around the Blair-Lakeland area as they continue working to clean up their properties in the wake of the storms. Salvation Army food trucks will transport these meals.

In Omaha Wednesday 5/1

The drive-thru Disaster Relief Center (DRC) in front of Brite Ideas Decorating (156th & Blondo) will again be open Wednesday -- from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Goods including bottled water, nonperishable foods, cleaning supplies, and personal-care items will be available for free to those affected by Friday’s severe weather. Those wishing to pick up items must show ID. The Salvation Army has seen an increase in requests from people stopping by the DRC regarding specific goods including rakes, shovels, garbage cans, work gloves, totes, brooms, and tarps; anyone wishing to donate such items is welcome to drop them off at the DRC during its operational hours (above)—and such donations would be greatly appreciated.
